She was bought by her first owner at the London Boat show and is now under her second ownership.  ‘In truth, though, performance is not the prime attribute owners of Rivals are seeking, but their outstanding seakindliness, which means they  can be driven on in conditions that will have other yachts running for cover.’  Sleeps 8 in two double and 4 single berths.

Yachting monthly said in their February 1996 review ‘ a no nonsense, go anywhere, deep water cruising yacht.  A quality yacht built to the highest standards, and whilst to some eyes she might appear unexciting, should make up for this in reliability and ruggedness. Since 1977 the many long-distance passages made by the Rival 38 in all the oceans of the world bear this out.

A robust boat ideal for offshore passage making.   A no nonsense, go anywhere, deep water cruising yacht.  She is a quality yacht built to highest standards. Antifouled in March 2014.  Lying ashore in South Devon.

Westerly Centaur

Westerly Centaur

A very well cared for 1977 example of this ever popular, small, family cruiser with ‘C’ Interior Layout. This Westerly Centaur has one double and two single berths in fore cabin, saloon and quarter berth. New Yanmar 20hp diesel in 2003. New spray hood and mainsail cover 2013. Sloop rig with furling mainsail and genoa. The sailing performance is helped by carefully designed bilge keels which are handed port and starboard with a two degree toe-in, so that once the boat heels under sail the more vertical leeward keel is developing lift to windward. Above deck, the Centaur remains popular because her deep cockpit and wide side decks serve to create a sense of safety when aboard. Another reason for the continuing popularity of Centaurs is the fact that they are a stiff, powerful boat. Whether sailing or motoring, the Centaur’s handling is always predictable.  Lying ashore at Noss Marina, Dartmouth close to our office.
